Last night saw the 17th Music of Black Origin awards which took place in Liverpool. Emeli Sande took home 3 awards, Rita Ora won Best Newcomer, the beautiful Rachel Kerr won Best Gospel Act, the handsome loudmouth D’banj won Best African Act and Misha B brought the house down with a great performance (as usual). Oh yeah and let’s not forget that lovely Waterfalls performance by Stooshe (It’s still sad to see T-Boz and Chilli without Left Eye).
However, and most importantly, is there any point in calling it Music of Black origin Awards anymore? I just don’t understand how Kanya King runs the show. Who chooses the nominees? How are the categories chosen? Whose great idea was it to mix bashment into the Best Reggae category? I just don’t understand.
With that said, the performances were better than they have been these past few years. I honestly didn’t know that the MOBOs only celebrated commercially successful, mainstream artists that do pop music. Oh okay Music of Black Origin awards.
And how do they choose the presenters? I’ve always liked Miquita, she really knows how to ask a lot of questions and she ain’t never bothered nobody, but Adam Deacon…just stop it!
