2011 was definitely an outstanding year for a few musicians and the Grammy Awards 2012 was certainly a reflection of that.
It was Adele’s night last night as she took home awards for all 6 categories she was nominated for, including record of the year. This
made her tie with Beyonce for most awards taken home on one night by a female artist.
Also, the comeback kid, Chris Brown had a night to remember as he performed on the show for the first time since the incident and walked away with R&B album of the year for FAME. It goes without saying that he never disappoints when it comes to his performances.
Highlights also included Bruno Mars collecting 5 awards and giving an amazing performance of “Runaway baby” and Nicki Minaj’s exorcism and levitation that left everyone confused. Not to mention the fact that it was a night for interesting dresses and distracting hair (Rihanna gave me Tina Turner tease all night).
With the mood being somber as the Grammy’s proceeded after the shocking news of the death of America’s first Black Pop Queen, Whitney Houston, the show started with a prayer from host LL Cool J.
There was a tribute to the Pop queen by Jennifer Hudson who sang “I Will Always Love You”, while fighting back tears and a tribute to unforgettable Etta James by Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt.
And not forgetting the Supreme Queen, Diana Ross, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
Last night’s award ceremony was one over shadowed by a great loss. As much as it was a celebration you could feel something was missing. A voice so powerful, you can’t help but be disheartened by the silence.
